Before joining the team, Michael lived in Gadsden, Alabama where he served on staff at Church on the Rock as assistant pastor and youth pastor. Michael has been involved in youth ministry on the local and district level for over fourteen years. His youth ministry experience includes serving as youth pastor, sectional director, district youth secretary as well as youth president for Alabama. Michael is privileged to be an ordained minister of the UPCI and is excited to serve this incredible generation of apostolic youth and young adults in a, “this is that” moment of time!
Michael met his beautiful wife at an Alabama youth camp and after many years of pursuit convinced her to marry him. Michael and DeAnna have been married for 11 years now and are parents to a five-year-old, blue-eyed ray of sunshine named Myla Joy. Michael also attended Gateway College of Evangelism/Urshan College and continues his educational pursuits through Hope International University. Michael enjoys running, kayaking, golfing and going on adventures.

Cindy Sorrels joined the UPCI Youth Ministries team (formerly GYD) in January 2005 to serve as an administrative aide. Her favorite part of the job has always been working with the Apostolic Youth Corps program. She has watched this ministry grow from 4 trips in her first year, to 20 trips in 2020. She is inspired by the hundreds of mission-minded young people who apply each year to take part in a life-changing AYC trip! She attended Indiana Bible College and has a love for all things, “Music”. Her other passions include: family, Lucy (her fur baby), traveling to warm locations, and a good iced latte.
The SERVE activity will be in our home town where we are planting a church. We will host a Children’s day event in an underprivileged neighborhood. The day will consist of games, bounce houses, balloon animals, face-painting, and an evangelistic children’s service at the end. We will also share food free of charge with the people who come.
When I left for my AYC trip to Costa Rica, there was no way I could have anticipated what God had in store for me. I left for Costa Rica, hoping to see God perform miracles in the lives of those around me. I never imagined that he also planned on touching my life, and healing the insecurities that I had struggled with for years. It took me flying all the way to Costa Rica to realize something; The God who healed bodies and filled souls with his spirit in Central America, was at work back at my home in Maryland. I left AYC not feeling afraid to go back home, but confident that when I went home, he would be the same God. Since AYC, my faith has been amplified and I know that God is the same, no matter where I am!
